An 85-year-old veteran humanitarian from Harrogate is planning his final visit to Ukraine.
Charles John Shackleton MBE has dedicated over 30 years to delivering aid to conflict zones around the world.
And after 50 missions, Charles is preparing to embark on his last trip to Ukraine in early October.
Mr Shackleton has tirelessly delivered essential supplies to war-torn regions including Kosovo, Afghanistan and Ukraine.
This final visit will see him delivering a fully equipped ambulance and medical supplies, including wheelchairs, to Kyiv in Ukraine.
This humanitarian effort comes at a critical time, as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine continues to place immense strain on medical resources.
Recognising the significance of this mission, local MP Tom Gordon is rallying public support.
He has tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM) in Parliament, highlighting Mr Shackleton’s decades of service.
The EDM also commends Mr Shackleton’s recognition in The King’s Birthday Honours for his outstanding contributions to global humanitarian aid.
Tom Gordon said:
"Mr Shackleton’s dedication to helping those in crisis zones is nothing short of extraordinary.
“As he embarks on his final mission, it is vital that we, as a community, come together to support this effort and raise awareness of the continued need for humanitarian aid in Ukraine.
"Mr Shackleton has made unparalleled personal sacrifices to bring aid to those in desperate need. I am proud to support him, and to ensure that his last mission is a success.”
“His determination has never faltered. His story is one of resilience, courage, and the unwavering belief that one person can make a difference, no matter the odds.”
