Local community running group Early Bird Run Crew is inviting women to take part in its early morning 5km runs on Friday, 31st October, in support of the national campaign Let’s Lift The Curfew, led by This Girl Can.
With shorter days now here following the recent clock change, the Early Bird Run Crew is highlighting the importance of feeling safe and supported while exercising outdoors.
The group meets at 6 am and 6.30 am every weekday morning from the Cenotaph in Harrogate town centre and the market square in Knaresborough.
Each session offers a relaxed 5km route designed to be welcoming and inclusive for runners of all abilities.
Sam Holbrook from Early Bird Run Crew said:
“We want to create a space where women feel confident getting active outdoors, whatever their pace or experience,”
“The winter months can feel more challenging, so we’re saying: come along, we’ll look out for one another, we’ll run together, and we’ll show that early morning doesn’t have to be daunting.”
The Let’s Lift The Curfew campaign, which began in October 2023, shares women’s experiences and concerns about exercising outside during darker months, while encouraging communities to make outdoor activity safer and more accessible.
Early Bird Run Crew’s involvement supports this message, offering free, non-competitive sessions open to all women.
No booking is required, and new participants are welcome to join at either time slot.
The runs take place on familiar, well-lit 5km routes around Harrogate and Knaresborough.
Participants are advised to wear suitable footwear and comfortable clothing, along with hi-vis gear or a head or chest torch.
