A new health and wellbeing business has opened in one of Ripon's most recognisable retail locations.
Sustain, founded by Charlotte Baldwin, has officially opened at the historic Halls of Ripon, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by the Mayor marking the launch.
The opening is the latest stage in the redevelopment of the Halls site, a long-established part of the city’s shopping area, which is being repositioned as a destination for independent businesses.

Sustain had already begun trading following a soft launch the previous week, but the event marked its formal introduction to the public.
Charlotte said the idea for the business developed from her experience working in the independent health food sector:
“I wanted to create the kind of place I always felt should exist.
“Somewhere that doesn’t just sell products, but actually helps people - whether that’s understanding what to eat, finding support, or simply feeling more like themselves again.”
The shop aims to provide a range of support, including advice on nutrition and wellbeing.

This includes areas such as menopause support, as well as everyday options like healthier snacks for families.
Charlotte added:
“I want people to feel energised, joyful and well, whatever stage of life they’re in."
Visitors at the launch were given a tour of the premises, which includes a medieval well uncovered during renovation work.
The feature is expected to form part of the business’s future plans. Guests were also offered wine tastings using an Enomatic dispensing system.

Councillor Barbara Brodigan, Mayor of Ripon, said:
“It’s fantastic to see a business like Sustain opening in such an important location for the city.
"It brings something fresh and positive to the high street, and it’s exactly the kind of independent venture that helps our community to thrive.”
The site includes a café serving drinks and food, alongside retail space.
The business also plans to host community events, including supper clubs and collaborations with local practitioners.
Early customer feedback has been positive, according to the business.
