The Living Room Cafe in Starbeck is set to offer free packed lunches to those in need once again this Easter.
Starbeck cafe to offer free packed lunches during Easter holidays A community-minded cafe in Starbeck are set to offer free packed lunches to those in need this Easter. The Living Room is bringing back its ‘Packed Lunch Project’ in which families are provided with nutritious lunches, alongside a hot meal pack for one evening meal. The scheme proved popular during February half term in which the volunteer-run cafe fed over 100 people, whilst connecting with various schools and community groups. The Easter lunches will be available from 10:30am until 12:30pm on Thursday 28th March and Thursday 4th April. Organiser and cafe Manager Sarah Khanye said:
“If we can help with just one meal over the holidays then that’s one day that doesn’t have to be thought about. “We try to include a small rainy day craft to do at home as well as a hot meal pack to use for one evening meal. “This will be our eighth packed lunch project and we have continued to see the numbers rise and also numbers for food banks rise. Food poverty is real in our community!"[caption id="attachment_104969" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Sarah Khanye (right) is organising The Living Room's 'Packed Lunch Project'.[/caption] The free lunch typically contains a sandwich alongside snacks including crisps, yogurts and a biscuit. The Living Room has partnered with KD Fruiters who will be providing fruit and vegetables. The idea was originally launched to fill the “gap” for families who were not issued meal vouchers post-lockdown.
