Horticap volunteer to walk 70km for charity to celebrate 70th birthday

Alistair Garnett will walk 70km in aid of Harrogate charity Horticap.

A Horticap trustee and volunteer is taking on a remarkable 70km challenge to celebrate his 70th birthday and raise money for the Harrogate charity.

Alistair Garnett will walk the 6 Dales Trail over two days on 7th and 8th May, including full circuits of Swinsty, Roundhill and Leighton reservoirs, in support of Horticap’s work with adults with learning disabilities.

The Harrogate charity helps adults with learning disabilities develop confidence, practical skills and independence through horticulture, training and meaningful activity.

Mr Garnett said he was inspired to take on the challenge because of the difference he sees Horticap make every week.

He said:

“As a volunteer, I see first-hand the confidence, skills and friendships that grow here every week for adults with learning disabilities.

"It’s not just gardening — it’s independence, purpose and belonging. Every donation helps keep that growth going. If you can sponsor me, even a small amount, it would mean a great deal.”

He hopes to raise £1,500 through the walk.
