Former England manager and Harrogate resident Gareth Southgate has been officially knighted after being recognised in the New Year Honours.
Sir Gareth Southgate attended Windsor Castle alongside Prince William for the honour, which recognises his services to football.
The 54-year-old lead the England national team from 2016 until 2024, guiding the team to the final of both Euro 2020 and Euro 2024.
Speaking about the honour, Southgate said:
“I feel very emotional about it. I am surprised by it.
"Words are really quite inadequate to describe it. It comes out of the blue."
