Pupils from a Harrogate school have been given an inside track on life working within the White House – from a former Communications Director to President Donald Trump.
Anthony Scaramucci took part in an interactive session with Sixth Formers and Year 11 pupils at Ashville, offering them a first-hand insight into leadership, resilience, politics and global finance.
The transatlantic talk launched a flagship series of lectures for senior pupils at the school as part of the new Six@Ashville, each featuring a keynote speaker.
It coincided with the opening of the school’s new Sixth Form Centre, which was transformed over the summer in a renovation shaped and reimagined by the pupils themselves to give it the “wow” factor.
It has also created a platform for the launch of Six@Ashville, a novel approach designed to redefine the school’s Sixth Form experience to extend pupils’ development through an unprecedented range of new and innovative courses, opportunities and freedom.
Head of Ashville, Rhiannon Wilkinson, said:
“We were thrilled to welcome a speaker of Mr Scaramucci’s calibre to kick start our new lecture programme.
“We were all impressed by his lucidity and candour and he undoubtedly sparked a profound level of thought and engagement amongst our senior pupils about the challenges the western world faces today.
“His insights sparked curiosity, debate, and inspiration - the perfect beginning to Ashville’s exciting new Lecture Series, designed to bring world-class thinkers to the Six@Ashville programme.
“Six@Ashville is tailored to meet the changing and diverse needs of today’s 16 – 18-year-olds and the importance of preparing them for the world of work - with a menu of pathways for the scholar, creative, athlete and budding entrepreneurs.”
As well as being a former White House Communications Director under President Trump in 2017, Mr Scaramucci’s career includes being a Wall Street financier, lawyer, author and broadcaster, and is the founder of investment form SkyBridge Capital.
He is a co-host of the popular The Rest Is Politics: US podcast, sharing the microphone with the US special correspondent for the BBC, Katty Kay.
In it, he uncovers secrets from within the White House inner circles, as well as taking a wider look at the complexities of US society and how they can shape the world’s most important economy.
In 2011 he received the Ernst & Young’s New York Financial Services “Entrepreneur of the Year” Award.
