A para powerlifter from Harrogate is heading to Paris next month to represent Team GB in the Paralympic Games.
A paralympic powerlifter from Harrogate is set to represent Team GB tomorrow (Thursday).
22-year-old Charlotte McGuinness is currently in Paris ahead of the Women’s Para Powerlifting 55kg event.
It will be broadcasted on Channel 4 from 4pm tomorrow.
Charlotte will be representing Team GB in the para powerlifting alongside Olivia Broome, Matthew Harding, Liam McGarry, Zoe Newson, Louise Sugden and Mark Swan.
She told Your Harrogate:
“This has always been a dream of mine and I’ve had to overcome many obstacles to get to where I am today.
“I feel so grateful to be in this position and proud of how far I have come and look forward to seeing what is ahead in the future.”
Charlotte first competed in the Dwarf Games in 2019 - her first attempt at weightlifting.
It was there that she was spotted by ParalympicsGB, who invited her to a session at Loughborough.
She was then put on the national development squad, leading her to be selected for Team GB.
In 2021, she won bronze for Team GB at the Para Powerlifting World Cup.
