Knaresborough teacher to run London Marathon in aid of Henshaws

Lindsay Hicks will take on her first ever marathon later this month.

A teacher from Knaresborough is set to take on the London Marathon later this month in support of a local charity.

Lindsay Hicks will run the 26.2-mile race on Sunday 26th April, aiming to raise £2,000 for Henshaws, a Knaresborough-based organisation that supports people living with visual impairments and additional needs.

It will be Lindsay’s first marathon, which she describes as the biggest challenge she has undertaken.

With three weeks remaining before the event, she has already reached a personal milestone in training, completing a 33-kilometre run.

Henshaws provides a range of services for both adults and children, including specialist education, therapy support and creative opportunities designed to promote independence and wellbeing.

Speaking about her motivation, Lindsay said her professional role as a primary school teacher and Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) has influenced her decision to support the charity.

She said:

“I’m passionate about ensuring children and young people receive the best support possible - and now I want to take that care beyond the classroom and into the wider community.”

Lindsay, who has lived in Knaresborough for more than 25 years, has previously supported Henshaws through fundraising challenges, including completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks.

Funds raised from the marathon will contribute towards a range of services provided by the charity.

These include creative workshops at its Arts and Crafts Centre, therapy sessions such as hydrotherapy and physiotherapy, and specialist equipment to support students with additional needs.
