A Harrogate man has been banned from keeping animals after seriously injuring a puppy in his care.
27-year-old Kyle Dorling’s American bulldog Ivy suffered horrific injuries including three broken legs and a broken jaw.
Dorling admitted inflicting blunt force trauma on Ivy on numerous occasions between December 2022 and March 2023.
He also admitted failing to seek veterinary care for Ivy.
Unfortunately her injuries were so severe that Ivy had to be put down to “prevent further suffering”, according to the RSPCA.
A vet who treated Ivy on behalf of the RSPCA said:
“The pain that Ivy would have been in with one, let alone five, fractures is unfathomable.
"What is most upsetting is that an owner would leave their own pet in such an excruciatingly painful state without seeking emergency veterinary care other than sporadically over a period of a few months."
A member of the public had spotted the puppy in Sheffield in March 2023, the court heard.
She noticed Ivy was skinny and unable to walk properly.
There was scarring on her mouth - which looked like it had been tied shut - and her paw pads were “bloody and raw”, according to the RSCPA.

Dorling was handed an 18-month custodial sentence, suspended for two years, and has been disqualified from keeping animals for an “indefinite period.”
He will not be able to contest his ban for ten years and was ordered to pay £400 in costs and a victim surcharge of £154.
The court was told he had experienced a “difficult upbringing” and had poor mental health, which contributed to his behaviour.
He was said to have demonstrated remorse and had no previous convictions.
Dorling had also been assessed as being capable of rehabilitation within the community.
