Ripon businesses sign up for new 'pay it forward' scheme A number of Ripon businesses have signed up to a new 'pay it forward' scheme that will allow customers to support those in need. As part of the initiative, customers at participating venues are able to donate the price of a hot drink or sandwich to “Pay it Forward” to someone in need. Those in need can then ask if there is a “Pay it Forward” drink or sandwich available upon their visit. It officially launched on Monday (18th March). Eleven city centre businesses have already signed up to the scheme, launched by Ripon resident and ex-Army veteran Alec Lutton. Alec is well known in the local community having started the “Bread of Life” food bank, which is now run by Community House. He also runs Defibs Ripon which raises money for defibrillators and provides relevant training. Alec said:
“One of my main interests in life is to help others, without judgment towards them. “We all know of the difficulties many people go through on a daily basis, and for some it may be that they are unable to purchase just a cup of coffee, tea or even a sandwich. “Cafés or takeaway owners can help those in need by being a part of this project, at no cost to their business.”
The businesses that have signed up so far are: Big Bites Cathedral View Café Chimes Lula’s Café Wakeman’s House Café Caffe Nero Realitea Oliver’s Pantry Valentino’s Coffee at No.10 Café on the Square Read more local stories from Your Harrogate here.
