The asking price for Ripley Castle and its surrounding estate near Harrogate has been reduced by £7.5 million.
The 700-year-old Grade I listed castle, which has been in the Ingilby family for 28 generations, was originally placed on the market in June 2024 with a guide price of £21 million.
The other lots concerning the estate remain at £6million for them all, meaning the overall price for the entire estate has dropped to £13.5 million.
The sale includes the castle, 445 acres of parkland, gardens, a deer park, lakes, farmland, and a range of commercial facilities including a tearoom, shop and event spaces.
The property is being marketed as either a whole estate or in separate lots.
Carter Jonas has confirmed that the change reflects ‘market conditions’ and is designed to attract a broader range of potential buyers.
A statement on behalf of the owners read:
"The family will continue to live nearby and focus on other interests.
"Most of the Estates enterprises will continue to trade as normal and our valued clients employees and tenants will be advised at the earliest opportunity of any changes to this plan."
The estate remains open to public visitors and continues to operate as a local attraction while the sale process is ongoing.
Ripley Castle has long been a landmark in the Harrogate district, drawing visitors for tours, weddings, events and outdoor activities.
The reduced asking price places it among the most significant heritage properties currently available on the UK market.
