Harrogate-born football star Rachel Daly has been nominated for the prestigious Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year.

The Aston Villa forward, who played for Killinghall Nomads as a youngster, finished the season as the Women’s Super League golden boot winner after scoring 22 goals. Rachel has gone on to star for England in the World Cup, sporting the number 9 shirt and helping Sarina Wiegman’s team reach the final. The 31-year-old is on a six-woman shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year award alongside Australia and Chelsea striker Sam Kerr, Manchester City’s Khadija Shaw, Ona Batlle, Frida Maanum and Guro Reiten. Just five English women have won the award before, including Daly’s current England teammates Lucy Bronze and Beth England. The winner will be announced on Tuesday 29th August.
