Harrogate Spring Water's facility expansion plans have the backing of the local community, according to a survey.
The York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce has reaffirmed its support for the facility's expansion plans, which reflects a broader wave of support from the Harrogate community.
71% of Harrogate residents, who expressed an opinion, have a positive impression of Harrogate Spring Water’s plans, according to a Censuswide survey.
The survey was conducted among 200 local residents in Harrogate in June 2025 on behalf of Harrogate Spring Water.
92% of residents said that a new publicly accessible woodland, along with tree planting, will adequately compensate for the initial loss of trees.
A decision is expected on the extension of the site plans next week.
Scott Jenkins, President of York & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, said:
“This expansion plan is a bold and forward-looking step for one of Yorkshire’s most prominent brands.
“Harrogate Spring Water is a true local success story, promoting Harrogate on the global stage from Royal Ascot to leading international airlines.
“The economic boost, job creation and community woodland offer a compelling package that balances business growth with environmental care.
“We believe this proposal sets a best-in-class example of sustainable development and urge planning officers to support it in full.”
The project represents a significant investment in Harrogate – creating over 50 new jobs, delivering an annual £2.3 million boost to the local economy, and a commitment to protecting the local environment.
Following extensive community consultation, the plans include a new publicly accessible two-acre woodland and planting six times as many trees as would be lost during the building process.
Simon Cotton, Managing Director of Fat Badger Group which owns the Fat Badger and Pickled Sprout, said:
“Harrogate Spring Water is part of what makes this town special – we are proud to serve it, and proud to see it grow.
“The expansion is a positive step for local business, with its continued success and commitment to sustainability reflecting the quality, heritage, and community spirit that make Harrogate such a great place to live, work, and visit.”
Richard Hall, Managing Director of Harrogate Spring Water, said:
“Harrogate is our home and we’ve listened carefully to the community and planning officers throughout this process.
“Our final proposal, which includes planting six times more trees than would be lost, reflects our commitment to develop a sustainable business and protect the local environment.”
