The committee behind the annual Knaresborough Tractor Run, have presented a record-breaking cheque to Yorkshire Air Ambulance whilst at Tractor Fest.
Following a huge turnout back in March when 423 tractors took part in the annual road run, donations have continued to roll in from individuals, businesses and sales of merchandise, resulting in a whopping £31,690 being presented to the charity.
Since it launched in 2012, the event has raised well over £160,000 for Yorkshire Air Ambulance and community fundraiser in the North, Katy Addyman, has been blown away by the total:
"It's incredible! A lot of people forget that we're actually a charity, we're not government funded, so it really is through the generosity of people, like societies - the Knaresborough Tractor Run, that we're able to keep our helicopters in the air and saving lives"
"We've got so many supporters in the agricultural community. Unfortunately, a lot our patients are farmers or involved in the industry, so it's a privilege to be here today (Tractor Fest) and accept this big cheque!"
The committee behind the tractor run are a non-profit organisation, registered as a Community Interest Company (CIC) and run by volunteers, many of whom are from an agricultural background.
Among those was started the event in 2012 was local farmer Michael Spink, who later died in an incident during January 2017 at the age of 24.
The event has continued in his memory every year since, and speaking to Your Harrogate at Tractor Fest, committee chairman Steven Brown, was thrilled with the record-breaking total:
"Very proud! We've got to remember that without you guys that help support, donate, sponsor, give your time, we can't do it without you."
"One of the biggest tractor runs in the Country, to hand over at one of the biggest tractor shows in the Country, it's brilliant! It just shows what a community we all are, when we all stick together - here's to next year!"
