Celebrations were in full swing this weekend as Harrogate Junior Parkrun marked its 10th anniversary.
Local MP Tom Gordon and the Deputy Mayors of Harrogate and Knaresborough, Jenny Travena and Andy Bell, joined families and volunteers for the event.
Tom kicked off the run, helping to celebrate ten years of encouraging children to get active, improve their wellbeing and feel part of the community.
Since it began, Harrogate Junior Parkrun has taken place 438 times, supported by 959 volunteers.
Over 5,200 children have completed the course, recording more than 42,000 finish times and over 9,000 personal bests.

As a regular at Harrogate Parkrun himself, Tom is a strong supporter of the event.
To mark the anniversary, he tabled a motion in Parliament recognising the organisers, volunteers and all the children and families who have contributed to the event’s continued success.
Tom said:
“Parkrun is a fantastic community event, and as someone who takes part most weeks, it was a real pleasure to celebrate ten years of the Junior Parkrun here in Harrogate.
“For a decade, this event has helped children stay active, enjoy the outdoors, and be part of something positive in their community. A huge thank you to all the volunteers and organisers who’ve made it such a success, week in, week out.”
Jenny Travena, Deputy Mayor of Harrogate added:
“The Junior Parkrun is a wonderful addition to our community, giving children a fun and healthy way to get outside and connect with others.
“None of this would be possible without the volunteers who turn up every week, so I want to say a huge thank you to them for all their work over the years.”
Andy Bell, Deputy Mayor of Knaresborough said:
“It’s been amazing to see so many young runners enjoying the junior parkrun over the past 10 years.
"It’s a great event that brings people together, and I’ve really enjoyed volunteering alongside so many wonderful people.”
