Ofsted full of praise for Harrogate High School after recent inspection

Harrogate High School has been praised by Ofsted following its latest inspection, with inspectors highlighting clear progress across the school.

The Ainsty Road secondary was visited earlier this year, with the report recognising improvements since its previous inspection in 2023.

Inspectors said pupils benefit from a positive environment, where “care, compassion and commitment” are central to their experience.

They also noted that teaching and the wider school offer have developed, with students given access to a broad range of opportunities including clubs, trips and community projects.

Pupils told inspectors they feel supported by staff, who know them well and respond quickly to any concerns.

While the report is largely positive, it also makes clear that further progress is needed, particularly in improving outcomes for some students at Key Stage 4.

Headteacher Sukhraj Gill said the findings reflect years of work across the school community.

He said:

“This report is a tribute to the hard work put in by pupils, teachers and leaders over several years to build a school which is ambitious, inclusive and succeeding.

“I am especially pleased that inspectors recognised our school as a special place where we know our students well and that their experience of Harrogate High is one of care, compassion and commitment.”

Harrogate High School, part of the Northern Star Academies Trust, was previously rated “requires improvement” at its last full inspection in 2023.

Under Ofsted’s updated system, schools are no longer given a single overall grade, with reports instead focusing on standards across key areas.

School leaders say the latest inspection provides a strong foundation to continue improving outcomes for all pupils.
