A Harrogate primary school's production of a brand new musical has garnered high praise from the musical's composers.
Highfield Prep School’s recent production of 'Oliver with a Twist, which was recently released by The School Musical Company, was met with a standing ovation from audiences.
Highfield was the first school to perform the adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic, Oliver.
Co-founder of The School Music Company, Mr Matt Crossey said:
“Highfield has been incredibly supportive of our work, so it’s wonderful to see Oliver With A Twist premiere at Highfield.
“It takes an incredible amount of work to put on a production, and the show’s quality is testament to the commitment and professionalism of the staff, and the diligence and hard work of the children.
“It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and talent on display, and there were definitely some future stars present.”

In ‘Oliver With A Twist’, Dickens’ tale retains its wonderful characters and exciting storyline, but – to ensure it is suitable for younger performers – has a number of twists which make it feel fresh, fun and wholly original.
Head of Highfield, Mr James Savile said:
“We are immensely proud of our performing arts offering.
“We provide opportunities for all children to develop skills that are useful not just on stage, but in everyday life, like self-confidence, teamwork, communication and creativity.
“This year’s production was simply incredible, and I couldn’t be prouder of our entire Prep 6 cohort and everyone behind the scenes.”

Highfield has a long tradition of providing pupils with opportunities to shine on stage, with timetabled music and drama lessons from Reception onwards.
Lead by Head of Music, Mrs Clare Gray, and Head of Drama, Mrs Cat Fearn, children have the opportunity to perform on stage from Pre-School to Prep 6.
The Prep 6 group also played a major role in designing the set for Oliver With A Twist.
