A charity relay event will be passing through Harrogate today as part of a 430-mile route around Yorkshire.
The Truncheon Relay has been organised by ‘Cops n’ Plodders’ - a group created to inspire, motivate and support people to get out in the open air.
The event will see participants take on a leg each, whether it be running, cycling, walking, paddle boarding and kayaking.
They’ll then pass on the truncheon to the next person whilst fundraising for Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Andy’s Man Club and Menfulness.
The relay began in Whitby earlier this month and today, as part of leg 13, will pass from Harrogate to Otley.
The final leg will end at Fulford in York with participants expected to clock up around 439 miles.
Former Harrogate police officer Paul Cording is among the 3-person team taking on today’s leg.
He told Your Harrogate:
“The good thing about Cops n’ Plodders is it’s not just cycling and anybody can be involved. You don’t have to be a police officer, it’s about being comfortable enough to talk about your mental health.
"It’s really good that we’re getting out there and I’m really looking forward to it today."
He’ll be joined by PC Dave Young and Nicola Lees.
The trio will be heading towards Otley, with a stop-off planned in Leathley for refreshments.
Nicola said:
"I’m not a cop, I’m definitely more of a plodder! I was invited to join the group during lockdown.
"I’ve just been a lurking in the group for some time but I like to join in and add my two penn'orth every now and again.
"When this relay came up I thought I’d love to be part of it.
They'll be running and walking the leg, which will be around 11 miles in total.
Dave added:
"We’ve all been allocated legs on the Truncheon Relay and I did leg 3 by myself, which was quite nice as an experience, but it’s also nice to join today on leg 13.
"I just wanted to get involved and we’ll see what adventures we get up to!"
Leg 13 of the @NYPlodders #TruncheonRelay and we are off. What a glorious day for a plod and a chat. Thanks for all those who have supported @YorkshireAirAmb @andysmanclubuk & @YMenfulness so far https://t.co/uQklOpyRWs pic.twitter.com/GPAwr9HRmn
