A team of 'bike doctors' have visited two Harrogate primary schools to support their ‘Bike Bus’ initiative.
Dr Bike - a team of mechanics - have visited Oatlands Infant and Junior Schools to help service bicycles and encourage children to maintain healthy travel habits.
Dr Bike often visit schools and shops to provide fully funded bike servicing to the community.
And Oatlands are champions of cycle to school safety, with their ‘Bike Bus’ encouraging children and parents to leave their car behind and reduce traffic congestion around school.

The schools connected with the Dr Bike team when they provided Bike Bus marshal training, funded through the Opening School Facilities grant, after being signposted by local road action hero Hazel Peacock and North Yorkshire Sport Education Manager Niall O’Brien.
Infant School Headteacher Christopher Harrison said:
“We work hard across both schools to promote active travel, and bringing Dr Bike on site helps even more people to ditch the car and get in two wheels to get to school and work.
"Our two fabulous schools work really closely together, and the Bike Bus and Dr Bike are another great opportunity for us to partner up to help the people around us.
"We’re also strengthening our connections within the wider community, such as partnering with North Yorkshire Sport, Sustrans and our local road action group.
"The Infant School were able to tap into the Opening School Facilities funding from the Department for Education, via North Yorkshire Sport, to provide Dr Bike free for the community.”
Oatlands Junior School Deputy Headteacher Drew Morley said:
"We are extremely proud of the collaboration between Oatlands Infant and Junior School that has continued to develop with Dr Bike visiting both sites.
"We are grateful for the support from the Harrogate-Brigantes Rotary Club that has enabled our Dr Bike visit along with our continued support from North Yorkshire Sport, Sustrans and our local road action group.
"This initiative not only fixes bikes but also fuels the spirit of adventure and healthy living among our children.
"By encouraging cycling and being part of the wider Bike Bus, we are paving the way for a brighter, greener future. Let's keep pedalling towards a healthier tomorrow!"
Both schools were awarded outstanding for Personal Development in their recent Ofsted inspections, with the big focus on physical and mental health and active travel receiving praise from both inspection teams.
