It's day one of the Great Yorkshire Show 2023 as visitors descend on Harrogate for one of the biggest agricultural events in the English calendar.
Tuesday 11th July: What's happening today at the Great Yorkshire Show? It's day one of the 164th Great Yorkshire Show as visitors descend on Harrogate for one of the biggest agricultural events in the English calendar. The show will take place over the next four days and is expected to attract 140,000 visitors throughout the week. Organisers Yorkshire Agricultural Society are set to introduce a number of new additions to the show this year, as well as some old classics. Charles Mills, Show Director said:
“There is an amazing buzz of excitement around the showground in the hours before we open the gates. "It’s very much a team effort as we all work to make it a superb experience for our thousands of visitors. "The Great Yorkshire showcases the finest of British agriculture and the latest in farming technology but it’s also a unique social occasion and brings together town and country and young and old to enjoy a terrific day out."Here's what's happening at The Great Yorkshire Showground on day one: Main Ring: The Ridden Hunters: Novices & Weights (HOYS) will be taking to the Main Ring for the Ridden Hunter Championship. Lizzie Jones & The Yorkshire Volunteers Band will be performing, as well as Lorenzo. And there's also set to be some competition, with the Heavy Horse Singles and Show Jumping taking place. GYS Stage The GYS Stage is back at this year's show, hosted by presenter Christine Talbot. Christine will be kicking off the interviews with BBC Countryfile star Adam Henson. This will then be followed by a book signing. Animal Rings: Cattle Rings: Beef Shorthorn National Show & classes, Longhorn National Show & classes, Native Beef Breed classes, Commercial Cattle classes Sheep Rings: MV & Non MV Sheep Breed classes, Wool Fleece classes, Commercial Lamb Carcass classes Pig Rings: Modern Pig Breed classes Goat Rings: Milking competitions New for 2023 All new for 2023, the Innovation Zone will. be showcasing new agricultural technology and research. There's also set to be the Sheep to Chic Fashion Show on the Sheep Shearing Stage, hosted by Your Harrogate's Nick Hancock.
