A one-man show from popular author Gervase Phinn has helped a Harrogate charity raise £6,000.
Gervase Phinn - a popular raconteur and best-selling author - hosted a sell-out show at Harrogate Theatre last week, with more than 360 people in the audience.
It was to fundraise for Friends of Harrogate Hospital - a charity that is dedicating to improving the patient experience at Harrogate Hospital.
And the charity has revealed that the event has raised just under £6,000.
John Fox, Chair of the Friends of Harrogate Hospital said:
"We are extremely delighted that we filled Harrogate Theatre and Gervase was on top form.
"We have raised nearly £6,000 from the afternoon.
"Our thanks to Gervase Phinn, Harrogate Theatre, our own Friend Dr Albert Day who organised the afternoon and everyone who helped."
Friends of Harrogate Hospital
The Friends asked all departments earlier this year to submit 'Applications for Funding' for items that could be purchased to enhance the patient experience at Harrogate Hospital.
An application from Evie Purcell from the Ophthalmology Outpatients and Children’s Eye Clinic for a Mobile Paediatric Autorefractor received the Friend’s support.
It's this item that will be funded by the money raised from Gervase Phinn's one-man show.
The application for the device explained:
“The device would allow more timely care for pre-verbal children and those with additional needs.
"The current procedure request examination following eye drops which take 30 mins to work and sting on instillation.
"The device could be used as a screening tool and allow some children to avoid this test if they do not indicate a refractive error problem.
"Avoiding unnecessary appointment for both patient and service provider.
"Allowing more capacity for efficiency, and more throughput of patients reducing cost overall as not all will need further testing.
"It also avoids eye drops which sting on instillation so more comfortable for patients. “
