National championship success for Harrogate district swimmers

Seven representatives of Harrogate District Swimming Club competed in the British Summer Championship finals.

National championship success for Harrogate district swimmers Harrogate District Swimming Club has praised seven of its representatives for their efforts at the Summer National Championships. Despite difficulties including pool closures, lack of pool time and coaching shortages in recent times, the team were able to contest the British and English National competitions. Of the seven Harrogate swimmers competing, two received medals, whilst others earned respectable finishes against some of the best swimmers in the country. Club Rep Brian Charlton said:

“The number of swimmers who made the finals (seven) is a brilliant achievement in spite of the hardships endured and huge credit must go to of course the swimmers themselves, but also their support network and brilliant coaches. “Well done Alfie, Amelia, Connie, Lily, Lois, Nell and Sophie.”

[caption id="attachment_78440" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Harrogate District Swimming Club saw seven representatives at the National Finals.[/caption] Results Notable results included 13-year-old Lois Child who beat two club record times on her way to a bronze medal in the 100m backstroke. Lily Stansfield recorded impressive 8th and 9th-placed finishes in the 100m and 200m fly. And Amelia Wright finished third in the 100m freestyle, receiving a bronze medal. Brian added:

“These last few years have been very, very challenging for so many different reasons, but it goes to show that we have a very strong club, run by selfless volunteers, many of whom the majority won’t see, but without them, there would be no club. “The icing on the cake for all the hard work, is of course displayed in the pool and there is no better measure for this than the season finales of the summer nationals. “Huge congratulations to Amelia and Lois for winning medals - a brilliant reward for their performances.”
