Popular Harrogate pilates course returns with new weekly class

Julie Downes is bringing back her popular Classical Pilates Harrogate classes next week.

A popular pilates course for beginners is returning to Harrogate next week.

Julie Downes, who operates Classical Pilates Harrogate, will run a new six-week course at Brostroff Hall in St Peter’s Church from Wednesday 9th September.

Classes will take place every Wednesday at 10am and introduce participants to the fundamentals of mat-based pilates.

A second six-week course, called Pilates for All, will begin on Thursday 10th September, with sessions taking place every Thursday at 11.30am.

The Thursday class is open to people of all abilities, including those with previous pilates experience.

Both courses will be led by Harrogate resident Julie Downes, who holds a Level 3 Diploma in Mat Pilates.

The beginners’ sessions will focus on fundamental movements and techniques, helping participants understand correct form, breathing and control.

Julie said:

“It was lovely to see people grow in confidence during the previous beginners’ course, so I’m delighted to be bringing it back.

“The Wednesday class is ideal for anyone who is completely new to pilates or might feel unsure about joining a class.

“We’ll start with the basics and work through everything at a comfortable pace in a friendly and supportive environment.”

She added:

“Pilates for All on Thursdays will be suitable for a wider range of experience levels, with different options offered so everyone can take part and enjoy the benefits of pilates.”

One client, who regularly attended Julie’s classes with his wife earlier this year, said:

“Julie’s classes are really enjoyable. She takes great care of us.

“Sessions are varied and we are offered different levels of difficulty to suit our abilities and the way we are feeling in any particular session.”

Another added:

“I was looking for a Pilates class to join but, having not done any exercise for some time, I felt apprehensive about walking into a large group in a gym.

“I was lucky enough to find Julie, who was running a small class in a local church hall. I felt totally at ease from the first session.

“She is welcoming, friendly and never made me feel under any pressure. She is a knowledgeable teacher who always gives different options so everyone can work to their own ability.

“I always find the classes enjoyable and leave feeling uplifted!”

A third client said:

“I started Julie’s classes six months ago as a complete beginner to Pilates.

“She’s a great teacher — she’s kind, patient, supportive and makes every class fun.

“I feel much stronger and my posture is better — a few of my friends even commented that I look taller than before!”

Places are limited due to the size of the venue, and participants will need to bring their own mat.
