Retail giant Lidl has confirmed it is still on the lookout for new supermarket sites in Harrogate and Ripon as part of its ongoing expansion drive.
The fast-growing discount chain, which already operates almost 1,000 stores nationwide, has refreshed its list of preferred development locations and is seeking hundreds of new sites across the UK.
In North Yorkshire, Lidl hopes to secure land for potential stores in Harrogate North, Harrogate South and Ripon, as well as in Tadcaster.
It is also aiming to relocate existing outlets in Pickering and Thirsk, while continuing to serve customers at established branches in Harrogate, Knaresborough, Malton, Scarborough, Bridlington and Selby.
The retailer is also pushing ahead with several major projects elsewhere in the region.
Construction is underway on a new York store at Monks Cross, which will become Lidl’s third in the city and is expected to create around 40 jobs when it opens later this year.
Planning permission is also in place for a Wetherby branch, with final conditions being agreed before work can begin.
Lidl says it remains keen to hear from landowners, developers and agents who may have suitable locations.
The company is offering a “competitive finder’s fee” for successful introductions and has set out clear criteria for the type of land it wants to acquire.
The ideal sites should:
- Be in prominent, easily accessible positions with strong traffic or footfall
- Offer freehold, leasehold or long-leasehold options
- Provide between 18,000 and 26,500 sq ft of space and at least 100 parking spaces
- Cover 1.5 acres or more for standalone stores, or up to 4 acres for mixed-use developments
- Be located in or near town centres
A spokesperson for Lidl GB said:
“We have ambitious plans to continue growing our store network across the country and are always on the lookout for suitable new locations.”
