Harrogate Grammar School has reported a strong set of GCSE results for its Year 11 students.
The cohort, who began secondary school during the Covid-19 pandemic, sat their exams earlier this summer.
According to the school, 82% of students achieved five or more GCSE passes including English and maths.
In addition, 35% of all grades were at 9–7, while the school noted a reduction in attainment gaps for disadvantaged students and those with special educational needs.
The school expects around 80% of the year group to continue into its Sixth Form.
Headteacher Neil Renton said the results reflected “the exceptional efforts of our students,” highlighting the challenges faced during recent years of disruption.
He added:
“Behind each grade is the unique story of each student – a story of perseverance, growth, and ambition.
The remarkable individual achievements deserve much recognition, and we applaud every one of them.”
Assistant Headteacher Nik Mason also praised the year group, commenting:
“From the outset, they have shown an unwavering commitment to learning, even when faced with disruption and uncertainty. Their success today is the result of focused effort, determination and the support of colleagues and parents.”
The school will now move forward with enrolment into Sixth Form for the next academic year.
