A Harrogate charity has launched a new electric minibus to allow disabled residents to access the countryside.
Open Country launched the new bus, affectionately named ‘Albus’, at Conyngham Hall last Friday (4th April).
Harrogate and Knaresborough MP Tom Gordon cut the ribbon alongside Open Country member Caroline.
The new eco-friendly bus has been funded thanks to the Postcode Neighbourhood Lottery and North Yorkshire Council’s UKSPF.
Features include movable seating for wheelchair users and a rear lift to make boarding easier.

Albus has been described as “quiet, comfortable and accessible” for Open Country’s members.
Chief Officer David Shaftoe said:
“As a charity that champions both the countryside and conservation, we’re committed to reducing our environmental impact.
"This new electric minibus is a cleaner and more sustainable option compared to traditional diesel buses, and will significantly improve the travel experience for our members.”
Open Country is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year.
The charity works alongside disabled people to help them access and enjoy the countryside.
It provides a variety of outdoor activities for its members alongside information, training and advice for all.
Richard Firth, Chair of Trustees, said:
"This is our first electric minibus, and it’s a major step for us as we embrace the future of sustainable transport – an achievement that’s especially meaningful as we celebrate our 35th anniversary."
Local MP Tom Gordon is running marathons in London and Paris to fundraise for both Open Country and Harrogate Hospital Community Charity.
