Harrogate athlete crowned England's strongest man Harrogate athlete Luke Richardson has been crowned England’s Strongest Man. The 26-year-old powerlifter came out on top following the Official Strongman competition at Doncaster Dome yesterday (Sunday). Luke was making his long-awaited comeback following three years of injuries. He raptured his left distal bicep tendon at the World’s Strongest Man competition in 2021. But on his return, Luke was able to beat tough competition in the form of Kane Frances and Paddy Haynes, who came second and third respectively, to claim the title. A spokesperson for the event said:
“An incredible finish to the weekend of strength! The future is back, the future is now! “A massive thank you to all of our fans, athletes, sponsors and crew! This sport continues to grow with your support and passion.”[caption id="attachment_81036" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Luke Richardson from Harrogate is officially England's Strongest Man.[/caption] Luke has been making waves in the powerlifting world since 2016, and that’s just one year after he started the sport. At just his second powerlifting meet ever, the British Classic Junior Powerlifting Championships, he not only finished in first place, but also squatted 705 pounds - a Junior British squat record. Luke has ambitions to be crowned the World’s Strongest Man. He said:
“Going down as one of the best to ever do it, that’s what I want to achieve in life. Achieving what I want to achieve, which is ultimately winning World’s Strongest Man a few times. “I’ve left myself no other option. There’s no plan B, this is plan A and I’m going for it.”Read more local stories from Your Harrogate here.
