Ripon's Portly Pig to host charity football tournament

Portly Pig is hosting a charity football tournament in July.

A new charity football tournament aimed at bringing Ripon’s business community together will take place this summer.

The inaugural Pig Cup will be held on Sunday 12th July, hosted by The Portly Pig and staged at Ripon City AFC’s ground between 10am and 3pm.

Organisers are inviting up to 16 teams from local businesses to take part in the six-a-side competition, with the aim of raising money for two local men’s mental health charities - Andy’s Man Club Ripon and Ripon Men’s Shed.

Both organisations provide spaces for men to connect and access support within the community.

Entry costs £50 per team, which includes a £1 player insurance fee.

Squads must be made up of players aged over 25, and businesses may enter up to two teams. Staff and customers are eligible to play.

In addition to the tournament, several English Football League trophies, including the EFL Cup, are expected to be on display for photographs.

Food and drink will be available throughout the day, and organisers say they hope the Pig Cup will become an annual fixture in Ripon’s events calendar.

Businesses are being asked to register and pay their entry fee by the end of March.
