Chain Lane Community Hub in Knaresborough has received a grant of more than £76,000 through the VCSE Energy Efficiency Scheme.
The Hub has been awarded £76,598.48 to implement energy efficiency measures in their community building to help them to save money and better serve the local community.
The funding will provide:
- Solar panels that will generate energy reducing the Centre’s reliance on electricity imported from the national grid
- Intelligent LED lighting using a variety of fittings that will dramatically reduce the carbon and energy consumption along with the introduction of smart sensors that will automate their operation to reduce usage and improve visitor and tenant’s experience
- Intelligent heating controls that will ensure heating is only used when and where it is required
In addition to the environmental benefits, the charity will be able to reduce its costs considerably so that more of its general funds can be spent on supporting the residents of Knaresborough and surrounding villages.
Sue Vasey of Chain Lane Community Hub said:
“We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded this funding.
“We have always been keen on reducing our impact on the environment and one of our strategic priorities is to become net zero.
“This funding provides us with the opportunity to maximise our efforts towards this goal and provide financial savings for the charity at a time of rising costs.
“This project will be a game changer for us.”
Chain Lane Community Centre was brought into community ownership in 2011 and has undergone considerable refurbishment since.
This project enables the Centre to realise a long-term aspiration for the long-term sustainability of the building.
The administration of these funds is managed on behalf of The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) by community charity, Groundwork.
The scheme is funded as part of a package of over £100 million of support being delivered by the Government to help frontline delivery organisations with the increased cost of living.
