Repairs to the collapsed wall on Briggate in Knaresborough will finally start next week after it fell in September.
Briggate wall repairs to begin next week Repairs to a collapsed wall on Briggate in Knaresborough will finally start next week. The stone wall on Knaresborough Road collapsed in September and has caused disruption for motorists since through temporary lights and closures. But repairs will finally begin next Monday (27th November), according to North Yorkshire Council. Works were due to be starting last month but were postponed. In a letter to a concerned Knaresborough resident, Cllr Carl Les said:
“Please accept my sincere apologies for any inconvenience and frustration that you and other residents are experiencing due to the temporary traffic signals on Briggate. “It has been necessary to keep temporary signals in place to protect road users, however since the collapse the team have been working behind the scenes on plans to rebuild it.”He said that plans had been complicated as the council needed to “consider the concerns” of residents who were directly impacted by the collapse. Some residents had cellars directly behind the stone wall. Cllr Carl Les added:
“The contractor will require the tow way lights to remain in place to complete the works as they will be working within the carriageway.”It is expected that the works will conclude and the road fully reopened around mid-December. Read more local stories from Your Harrogate here.
