A competition-winning bench for the King's Coronation which had been on display in London has been returned to Brackenfield School in Harrogate.
Winning Coronation bench returned to Harrogate pupils who designed it A special bench designed by Harrogate pupils for the King’s Coronation has been returned after taking pride of place in London. Dacre Braithwaite CE Primary pupils were one of 15 schools across the UK to have won the Historic Palace's Coronation bench competition earlier this year. The bench has been in place at the Tower of London since May, with Dacre Braithwaite students taking a VIP trip down to the capital to see it in situ. And after the Coronation celebrations, the bench has been returned to its “forever home” at the Harrogate school. The benches themselves were designed by schoolchildren and brought to life in collaboration with global public art producers Wild in Art. The theme was young people’s hopes for the future and values for a new era, inspired by teaching resources developed by Historic Royal Palaces which focused on the symbolism of the Crown Jewels and the Coronation ceremony. There were over 1,500 entries for the competition across the UK and only 15 winners selected, with 14 displayed at the Tower of London and one at Hillsborough Castle and Gardens.
