Thanks to the group's successful Charity Day in June, Harrogate Hospital & Community Charity and Supporting Older People have received much-needed funds to treat children and the elderly at Christmas. Georgia Hudson of Harrogate Hospital & Community Charity said:
“As the money raised will pay for a Children’s Entertainer, we can’t wait to see the excitement on the Children’s Ward over the festive period. “It’s an exceptional thing for this group of Harrogate independent retailers to do, and we really appreciate their efforts, and the support of so many people who really got into the spirit on the day!”Julia Lightfoot of Supporting Older People said:
“We are immensely grateful to Commercial Street Retailers Group for raising a whopping £625, which will go towards hosting our annual Christmas Lunch at Oakdale Golf Club for local elderly people experiencing loneliness and isolation.”Tony Spowage, one of the event organisers said:
“When I moved my business of 24 years onto Commercial Street last year, it was, in part, because of the unique Commercial Street Community, and now, as part of the Committee it was great to organise our first Charity Day with Sue of Lilly’s Café. "We’d like to thank our 22 member shops for donating raffle prizes, and to everyone that helped and attended."Commercial Street Christmas is a special time of the year on Commercial Street, not just for the busy trading period, but also ensuring that local families enjoy chocolate goodies too. They established their successful Chocolate Collection for Harrogate Foodbank in Christmas 2021, subsequently raising an eye-watering 36 stones of chocolate in just 2 years, Sue from Lilly’s Café said:
