Colleagues at Specsavers Harrogate have raised over £500, beating their initial goal of £100 after putting their orienteering skills to the test to raise money for local charity, Henshaws.
Henshaws, is a charity based in Harrogate which works to support visually impaired individuals and those with other disabilities.
The ‘Henshaws Hundreds’, is an initiative to get members of the community to raise £100 through a skill or hobby.
The team at Specsavers Harrogate decided to put lead optometrist, Pui Yee Thung’s navigation skills to the test.
They provided her with a map to follow and an aim: guide the group to Knaresborough for a drink and then to Ripley for ice cream, finishing back in Harrogate.
Pui successfully directed her colleagues on the 23km journey safely, managing to only get lost once at the start of their adventure.
Their initial fundraising goal was £100, but thanks to the generous contributions from colleagues and family members, the team exceeded expectations, raising an impressive total of £558.
Cynthia Zabee, a dispensing optician at Specsavers Harrogate, comments:
“We’re so proud of Pui taking the initiative to direct us on our walk on behalf of Henshaws."
"Here at the store, we enjoy getting together outside of work and taking part in new activities and the ‘Henshaw Hundreds’ challenged seemed like a fantastic way to incorporate our passions, all while raising important funds."
She added,
“We can’t believe we managed to raise over £500, we’re ever so grateful for the support from friends, family and the local community.
Henshaws has a special place in all our hearts at Specsavers Harrogate, as they care for some of our patients with vision loss.
So, it’s wonderful to be able to give back and say thank you on behalf of customers and colleagues at our store.”
