RHS Garden Harlow Carr has once again retained the highly coveted Plant Healthy certification following its annual independent audit.
It’s a scheme developed by the Plant Health Alliance to protect the UK’s gardens and horticultural supply chain.
This recognition reinforces the team’s dedication to maintaining the highest standards in plant health, biosecurity, and sustainable practices, making it a standout example for garden enthusiasts and the wider horticulture industry.
Plant Healthy certification is a distinguished benchmark in UK horticulture, granted to organisations that demonstrate exceptional commitment to protecting plant life from pests and diseases.
By meeting these standards and striving for continual improvement, which the scheme requires, the RHS Harlow Carr team ensures visitors can enjoy a healthy and thriving environment that contributes to the preservation of the UK’s natural heritage.
This certification places the Garden amongst an elite group of horticultural spaces recognised for their environmental stewardship and meticulous care. It reflects the team’s proactive efforts in protecting biodiversity and supporting the future of plant health, which is vital in today’s changing climate.
Paul Cook, Head Curator said:
“We’re honoured to receive the Plant Healthy Certification for another year.
"This achievement highlights the dedication and expertise of our team, who work tirelessly to ensure the garden is not only beautiful but also a safe haven for plants and wildlife.
"It’s a privilege to welcome visitors to a garden where sustainability and plant health come first.”
Supported by the RHS biosecurity team, the RHS Harlow Carr retail team ensured biosecurity standards for incoming plant materials, the curatorial team monitored plant health, and the events team raised awareness through educational sessions.
The nursery team maintained strict biosecurity protocols, while the plant records team tracked and documented all activities to ensure compliance. RHS Harlow Carr exemplifies great communication and teamwork.
For visitors, this certification assures that every plant and feature has been cultivated with care, enhancing their experience of a truly pristine and sustainable space.
From strolling through the curated gardens or buying plants from the garden centre, visitors can take pride in supporting a garden that champions environmental responsibility.
