A new independent bookshop in Harrogate has announced its opening date after a leaky roof delayed refurbishment work.
The Real Indie Bookshop on Parliament Street will officially open on Thursday 12th November, having originally planned to welcome customers in October.
The business is being launched by author Christina Gabbitas in the former Prey Four premises.
Announcing the revised date on social media, Christina said:
“I had hoped to open our doors in October, but unfortunately a leaky roof has delayed the refurbishment!”
Christina is also preparing for one of her stories to be adapted for the stage, which has helped shape the new opening plans.
She said:
“I’ve also got another exciting project happening, one of my stories is being transformed into a theatrical production to be performed at the iconic King Georges Hall where David Bowie and The Beatles once performed!
“So, to allow my full commitment to both, my Real Indie Bookshop will now officially open on Thursday 12th November.”
The shop will focus on independent writers and small publishers, alongside major titles and bestsellers.
There will also be a dedicated music section featuring biographies and books about musicians, bands and the wider music industry, as well as a small selection of vinyl.
Customers will be able to enjoy a coffee in the shop’s seated areas or order one to take away, while gifts and cards will also be available.
Christina added:
“Thank you for all the supportive messages I’ve received, I really appreciate.”
