Supermarket giant Tesco is looking for a 'community champion' for its new Harrogate store.
The store is due to open on Skipton Road in October and the ‘community champion’ will be tasked with linking the shop with local groups.
It’s one of around 100 roles being advertised ahead of the store's opening.
The community champion position is designed to connect the store with nearby charities, schools and voluntary organisations.
According to Tesco, champions are store colleagues who focus on community activity.
Duties will include co-ordinating surplus food donations through the Community Food Connection programme and supporting local projects via Tesco’s grants scheme, while also working alongside customer-facing teams.
Sarah Reece-Mills, Director of Programmes and Partnerships at Groundwork UK, said:
“Community Champions are a real contributing factor to success of the Tesco Community Grants programme.
“Their local knowledge, contacts and enthusiasm ensures funding goes to organisations that bring real support to the people and places that need it most.
“Together, we make a real difference to local communities up and down the UK.”
The Skipton Road superstore first received planning permission last year, with Tesco stating that revised plans include features such as solar panels, rainwater collection and a community garden.
