A new baby sling service for parents to carry their children is being launched in Harrogate.
Harrogate & Knaresborough Toy Library has launched a new ‘Sling Library’, offering a fitting and borrowing service for parents wanting to use slings and carriers for their young children.
The charity, which celebrates its 30th anniversary next month, already provides a toy borrowing service alongside regular play sessions from its base in Knaresborough.
It currently has over 150 members including families, childcare settings and schools.
Liz Ellory-Hoare, Chair of the library, said:
"It has long been our aim to add a Sling Library to our offering so after a lot of hard work from our trustees we are very excited to finally launch."
The Sling Library, which welcomed its first customer last week, has been funded in part by a grant from Knaresborough Lions.
Lauren Kemp, the library’s fully trained Babywearing Peer Supporter said:
“The benefits of babywearing have long been recognised but speaking with parents we know that the amount of choice and information can be overwhelming.
“I’m looking forward to helping families choose the right equipment to suit them, and providing the knowledge they need to carry their children safely and confidently.”
A one-to-one consultation and fitting service can be accessed at the charity’s twice weekly Stay & Play sessions.
Parents and caregivers can explore the range of slings and carriers on offer, which are then available to borrow for 2 weeks at a time
Feedback on what type of slings and carriers families would like to try, or donations of pre-loved pieces, would be gratefully received by the library team.
