Man proposes with drone display at Newby Hall fireworks event A man from Bradford proposed to his girlfriend with a personalised drone display at Newby Hall’s Fireworks Championships on Saturday evening. 30-year-old Rhys Whelan popped the question to girlfriend Megan Greenwood, 27, with a personalised message in the sky, set to the couple’s favourite song - ‘6 Words’ by Wretch 32. The display saw drones form several love-themed images before the words ‘Marry me Megan’. Rhys then got down on one knee and popped the question. “I don’t know what my face looked like, but I know I definitely started shaking.”She said her husband-to-be “couldn’t have done anything more perfect”, and that the unorthodox proposal “definitely beat anything that I could imagine”. The couple have been together for 9 years. [caption id="attachment_77157" align="aligncenter" width="976"] Rhys Whelan and Megan Greenwood. He said:
“I was absolutely terrified. It had been six months in the making, so all the planning and preparation all of a sudden came down to five minutes worth of display. “I tried to time it the best I could but I think because of the nerves I was a bit premature going down on one knee, but it had the desired effect in the end.”Newby Hall’s Fireworks Championship is an annual event in which three of the UK’s best fireworks companies compete, each putting on a 10-minute display.
