Sarah Chisem from Knaresborough is set to take on a 163-mile paddleboard challenge for two charities close to her heart.

Knaresborough women set for coast-to-coast paddleboard challenge A Knaresborough woman is set to take on a 163-mile paddleboard challenge for charity. Sarah Chisem will be paddleboarding from Liverpool to Goole over 11 days, taking in canals, rivers and 100 locks. It’s in aid of Andy’s Man Club and The Eve Appeal. Sarah is aiming to raise awareness about high suicide rates in men and also to fund research for gynaecological cancers, having lost a friend to a rare form of the disease in 2019. She will be taking on the ‘Desmond Family Canoe Trail’ - the UK’s first coast-to-coast canoe trail. [caption id="attachment_104675" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Sarah Chisem and her friend Sara Edgar.[/caption] Sarah, who works as a podiatrist in Knaresborough, will be taking on the challenge alongside her friend Sara Edgar. The pair will start at Eldonian Village Hall in Liverpool on 27th March and finish in Goole on 8th April. Sarah said:

“There are at least 100 locks that we will have to portage round. Paddleboarding is not the fastest way to travel, with an average speed of 3mph this will be a big test of my strength and determination!”

Speaking about her fundraising, Sarah added:

“I’m raising money for Andy’s Man Club because I feel so strongly that it is a much needed space for men to realise that ‘it’s OK to talk.’ “Suicide is the biggest killer of men under the age of 50. “If I can do one thing to support the cause and prevent the heartbreak that goes with the loss of a loved one then I will be one very happy lady.”
