Knaresborough dance school Freedom Performing Arts have qualified to represent England at the Dance World Cup in Prague this summer.

The group were ranked third in the country at the qualifiers in November with their Large Group Commercial routine and have been invited to perform for their country in Prague this summer. And the dancers, aged 12-17, are excited to put Knaresborough on the map. The Dance World Cup is a prestigious dance competition with more than 65 countries and over 5,000 dancers competing every year. Freedom Performing Arts founder Amy Meikle told Your Harrogate:
“This is a dream come true for our students and we are so excited to see them perform for their country. “These dancers work so hard every week and I’m so proud of them for never giving up and their determination to succeed.”The Dance World Cup will be live-streamed to thousands every day over the week-long competition. 22 Students will be flying to Prague to represent their country - but the school need to raise funds to cover the team kit, costumes, flights and accommodation. Amy added:
“We need to raise over £15,000 to cover the costs and would love to hear from any local business that would be interested in sponsoring us. “We have lots of opportunities for businesses to be be printed on our kits, flags and other merchandise. “We also have a Crowdfunding page for anyone else that would like to donate and support our local dancers. “The team are working hard to host various fundraising events over the next 6 months to try and raise as much money as possible.”The qualifying routine was choreographed by Amy Meikle and Commercial teacher Sophie Cussons, who trained at Freedom herself as a young dancer. She has since returned as a member of the teaching faculty following her professional training. The school started with Street Dance lessons held at Aspin Primary School one night a week and has now grown into one of the biggest schools in the area. Over 300 students attend a range of more than 50 classes every week with commercial and street dance still being at the forefront of what they do best. Freedom recently took on the lease of the Old Castle Girls School in the Castle Yard, Knaresborough, giving it a huge make over and offering their students a bespoke dance studio.
