Harrogate's town centre vacancy rate has dropped to half of the national average following a number of exciting new additions.
According to the latest figures from North Yorkshire Council, Harrogate’s vacancy rate currently stands at 7.8%, almost half the national average (14%).
This follows more than 10 new shops, office spaces and restaurants launching in the town centre in 2025 including homeware brand Søstrene Grene, Sosandar, WorkWell and the new Mayfair bar.
Harrogate’s Business Improvement District (BID) said they are “delighted” to see new openings and are confident they will have a "positive impact" on both the local economy and community.
Matthew Chapman, Harrogate BID Chief Executive, said:
“We’re thrilled to see so many new businesses opening within our town centre so far in 2025.
“It’s fantastic to see these well-known names putting their trust into Harrogate and we’re very confident they will see positive results.
“As reflected by our low vacancy rate, Harrogate is an attractive place to operate with a vibrant town centre and it’s always great to see new additions coming into our community.
“As the BID, we’re looking forward to working alongside these new organisations in our town and sharing ideas and experience.”
As outlined in the BID’s ‘Voice & Vision’ objective, the organisation is always keen to engage and lobby with businesses outside of the town to encourage them into Harrogate by showcasing the location as a top place to work, shop and live.
