Harrogate Town match sees highest attendance in 74 years

More than 4,000 fans saw Harrogate Town's FA Cup victory on Friday.

Harrogate Town's FA Cup clash with Gainsborough Trinity was watched in front of a record-breaking crowd on Friday night.

Town progressed to the third round of England's most famous cup competition after beating the visitors 1-0.

And it was in front of a crowd of 4,010 - the club's biggest home crowd since 1950.

That's in addition to those watching at home, with the match broadcasted live on BBC Two.

A 57th-minute strike from James Daly was enough to seal victory for Town, despite a nervy finish to the match.

Speaking after the game, Town Manager Simon Weaver said:

"It was a great result because we achieved what we wanted to do and what we set out to do.

"There was a determination among the group to avoid the banana skin, to assert ourselves on the game and I think we did that without finding that finish.

"It could’ve been more comfortable in the end, but it wasn’t, and human nature, you get a bit up tight in the closing stages, but I think we deserved the win."

The club now await their next opponents, with the FA Cup third round seeing Premier League teams enter the competition.
