A Harrogate swimmer has won three medals whilst representing Team GB on the European stage.
15-year-old Lois Child, who represents Harrogate District Swimming Club, secured three medals at the 2025 European Youth Olympic Festival in Skopje, North Macedonia.
Lois claimed a silver medal in the 400m individual medley, silver in the mixed 4×100m medley relay and a bronze in the mixed 4×100m freestyle relay.
She was named among sixteen swimmers in Britain’s squad which formed part of the record‑sized 54‑athlete Team GB delegation to the festival, which ran from 20th to 26th July 2025.
Her selection followed her standout performance at the British Championships in April, where she posted the fastest time among 14/15‑year‑old females in the 200m freestyle.

At the event’s outset on 21st July, Lois swam a personal best in the 400m individual medley final, finishing in a time of 4:54.91—a nine‑second improvement on her entry mark—to secure silver.
In the later relay heats and finals, she joined teammates Lydia Cordle, Tyler Stone and Patryk Przyczyna in the mixed medley, where they narrowly missed gold.
She teamed up again in the mixed freestyle relay with Cordle, Lili Mundell and Nikolai Sisnett to take bronze.
Lois said:
"That is such a hard event, so it feels amazing to get the medal. I wasn’t expecting that result at all, but I’m so pleased with my performance.
“Getting second and standing on the podium doesn’t feel real at all.
"I’m really happy to have got that first medal and hope it’s the start of many more to come for Team GB.”
Britain’s swimmers claimed 11 medals over five days of competition, as Team GB finished Skopje 2025 fifth in the medal table, winning 22 medals - ten gold, seven silver and five bronze.
The next edition of the summer European Youth Olympic Festival will be hosted in Lignano Sabbiadoro in Italy in 2027.
