Oatlands Infant School had a big finish to Children's Mental Health Week by inviting Rock Kidz UK into school.
Children across the school bounced between online maths battles as part of ‘Maths Rocks Day’.
They talked at length about mental health and wellbeing, and they sang and danced along with Rock Kidz during workshops focussing on resilience and wellbeing.
There were air guitar battles, dance offs and smiles on every face.
Children came into school dressed as rock stars whilst Rock Kidz cover songs blasted out across the playground.
Reception and Year 1 got their dancing shoes on first, followed soon after by Year 2, and the whole school came together for the afterparty in the afternoon.
Headteacher Mr Harrison said:
“Happiness and wellbeing sit at the centre of our school journey. We love connecting with other folk who champion children as we do, and Rock Kidz are the best!
“Not only are their visits super active, but they also have powerful messages threaded through about loving and looking after yourself.
“These are delivered through hilarious performances and original rock songs, which the whole school join in with.
“We’ve already booked them in for next year, thanks to the funding of our amazing PTA.
“My only disappointment is that I was defeated in the dance off again – I’d better get practicing for next year!”
Oatlands Infant School have recently had their heavy focus on happiness, wellbeing and physical activity, recognised in their recent Ofsted inspection.
Inspectors said:
“The way the school develops pupils’ character is exceptional.
“The school has developed a vast range of spectacular opportunities for pupils to develop their character.”
