Harrogate RSPCA look to rehome stray three-legged dog

Barney, who had his leg amputated after he was found as an injured stray, has been rehabilitated in RSPCA care and is now looking for a new home.

Harrogate RSPCA look to rehome stray three-legged dog A loving three-legged lurcher has been rehabilitated in RSPCA care and is now looking for his forever home. Two-year-old Barney was taken into the care of York, Harrogate and district branch of the RSPCA after he was found as an injured stray by a dog warden. His leg was in such an horrific state that it needed amputating. Now that Barney has recovered from his operation, he is enjoying life and loves being sociable and having long walks  - but staff say what he would like more than anything is a place to call home. Ruth McCabe, animal centre manager at the branch, said:

“Barney is a wonderful boy - an absolute gem of a dog. “He has had a real tough time recently and all he wants is for someone to love him and for him to love back. He is a very brave boy who deserves the absolute best home. “Barney is sociable with other dogs of medium to large size, he loves going on his walks and being out and about."
Ruth added:
"Most of the time Barney is either snoozing in his bed or cuddled up with the staff having quality time, he has so much love to offer and will make the most wonderful addition to the family. “Barney can be a little unsure with new people but it really only takes a few minutes and a few snacks to win him over. He can live with another dog of similar size and children aged 14 years and over.”

York, Harrogate and district RSPCA The RSPCA has seen a growing number of animals come into its care as owners struggle to support them during the cost-of-living crisis - and less people are adopting due to the costs involved. The RSPCA say this is putting some branches under “immense strain” as they are funded independently and rely on public support. The charity has rehomed over 11,560 pets throughout the past decade in North Yorkshire.
