Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust (HDFT) has launched a new digital system in a bid to modernise healthcare.
This system, called Nervecentre EPR (The Trust’s new Electronic Patient Record system), replaces paper-based processes and brings patient information together in one secure place, helping doctors and nurses make quicker, safer decisions.
The first phase went live in November with two key features:
- Electronic Observations – allowing staff to record vital signs digitally.
- Clinical Photography – enabling secure storage of clinical images.
Clinical staff have already seen big improvements, including more accurate patient lists and faster alerts for patients who need urgent care. A new sepsis tool has helped identify patients at risk and ensure they receive treatment promptly.
Building on this success, a new feature for patient investigations went live on 2 December. This means test results can now be viewed and filed in the same system, reducing duplication and saving time.
What this means for patients:
- Doctors and nurses can access information instantly at the bedside.
- Faster response when a patient’s condition changes.
- Less paperwork and more time for patient care.
Dr Jacqueline Andrews, Executive Medical Director at HDFT, said:
“This new system is transforming the way we deliver care.
"By bringing all the important information together, our teams can make quicker decisions and spend more time with patients.
"It’s a big step towards safer, more efficient care for our community.”
Dermot Ryan, NHS England’s Director of Digital Transformation, said:
“Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust’s work to deliver their Electronic Patient Record system will help transform the way care is delivered for patients – including streamlining workflows, reducing administrative tasks and improving data accessibility, as well as laying the digital foundations for innovative technologies that further support clinical practice and enhance patient care.”
Further improvements are planned for next year as part of the Trust’s ongoing digital transformation.
