Harrogate cyclists set off on 600km fundraising trip to Paris

A team of 14 cyclists at Hornbeam Park this morning.

A group of Harrogate cyclists have set off on their epic 600km fundraising trip to Paris.

The team of fourteen left St Michael’s Hospice on Hornbeam Park at 8:30am this morning (Friday).

They’re fundraising for the charity, as well as Open Arms Malawi, by cycling the 600km distance to Paris on the first day of the 2024 Olympics.

The journey will take them six days as they head through Hull before an overnight ferry to Rotterdam.

They'll then move through Belgium and Northern France before arriving in time to see Weeton’s own Lizzie Deignan compete.

George Dickson, one of the riders and a presenter on Your Harrogate, said:

“We’re really excited. It’s a big group, myself and loads of family, cycling from sunny Harrogate to Paris to join the Olympic Games.

“The training is done, the van is packed and the bikes are ready! We’re raising as much money as we can for St Michael’s and Open Arms Malawi.”

Team member Christian Dickson said:

“We are raising money for St. Michael’s Hospice which does absolutely amazing work to provide palliative care for people of all ages who are suffering from terminal illnesses.

“All the staff and volunteers go above and beyond every day.

“We and St. Michael’s would be delighted if you could make a donation, however small. Your support will help us keep the pedals turning each day.”
