Harrogate BID have branded the icy conditions in the town centre as “unacceptable” and further clarified the work being done by its team to avoid any dangerous incidents.
The Harrogate community has called on North Yorkshire Council to act after footpaths and roads became unsafe due to the extreme weather.
A daily statutory service should be delivered by 9am (which can be found here) but the BID said it had been made aware that this service had not been delivered.
It has since been lobbying North Yorkshire Council Officers, North Yorkshire Council Directors, Councillors, Chief Executive Richard Flinton, Tom Gordon MP and media partners to push for a reaction to the situation.
In a statement, a Harrogate BID spokesperson said:
“All BIDs should be voted into place to deliver additional services, and whilst we are always keen to work in collaboration and support where needed, we should not and at times cannot deliver statutory services such as this.”
The BID’s two Street Rangers and Town Centre Support Officer (TCSO) have been gritting footpaths using public salt bins and clearing snow and ice in recent days.
It’s expected that the snow, ice and general cold weather will clear over the weekend.
The spokesperson added:
“Thank you to all BID Members that have reached out over recent days to support our lobbying.
“Thank you to you all for remaining open, supporting our communities and continuing to make Harrogate a great place to visit, live and work.”
