Firework Championships at Newby Hall postponed

The Fireworks Championships has been postponed until next year.

The Firework Championships at Newby Hall have been postponed due to the increased risk of fire caused by extremely dry conditions.

The event had been due to take place this Saturday (22nd August), with three professional firework companies competing at the Ripon attraction.

Organisers have now announced that the event will instead take place on Saturday 21st August 2027.

The decision follows heightened concerns over the risk of fires following the prolonged hot and dry weather.

Firework Champions and Newby Hall said in a joint statement:

“Following further discussion between Firework Champions and Newby Hall, we have jointly made the difficult decision to postpone this year’s event until Saturday, 21st August 2027.

“Due to the extremely dry conditions in the surrounding countryside, this has created an increased risk around a large-scale fireworks event.”

The announcement comes after an emergency alert was sent to mobile phones warning people about the heightened risk of wildfires.

This year's event had been set to feature three professional firework companies each producing a ten-minute display, followed by a larger finale.

Organisers have confirmed that all existing bookings will automatically be transferred to the new date in August 2027.
